If I Can’t Be a Dog Trainer, Count Me Out

Let’s be clear. If I can’t spend my days knee deep in dog training, especially training Belgian malinois, training German shepherds, or just dog training dogs, then what’s the point? Seriously. Some people dream of corner offices, others fantasize about being influencers with discount codes for teeth whitener. Me? I’d rather be in a big green grass field in Beaverton, OR, teaching dogs (and their humans) how to live their best, least-chaotic lives, ever.

Because here’s the thing - dog training isn’t just “sit, stay, roll over.” It’s art, science, and a little bit of intuitive magic rolled into one. Dog training for dogs is about giving families deeper understanding and respect for their dogs, peace in their homes, helping dogs thrive with structure, and saving sanity one leash pull at a time.

I love it so much that the thought of doing anything else makes me break out in hives (not like, literally though, don’t worry). Filing paperwork all day? Nope. Staring at spreadsheets that don’t involve a training schedule? Hard pass. Explaining quarterly reports in some fluorescent-lit conference room? I’d rather wrestle an 80 lb malinois in my bite suit. It’s SO fun!

In my local Columbia County, people ask me all the time, “Why dogs?” My answer: Why not dogs? Dogs don’t lie. Dogs don’t ghost you. Dogs don’t send passive-aggressive emails. They show up, tail wagging, ready to learn and when you nail the training, they give you the best kind of feedback. A calm, balanced, happy life by your side, ready to go.

So yes, dog training for dogs is my hill to die on. If I can’t do this, I don’t want to do anything else. Because once you’ve seen the transformation - once you’ve turned chaos into calm - you’ll get it. And you’ll never settle for less, either.
